EFEKTIVITAS METODE TALKING STICK DALAM
MENINGKATKAN MAHARAH KALAM SISWA KELAS VII B
MTS JAMILURRAHMAN YOGYAKARTA 2025/2026

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya keterampilan menyimak (maharah istima’) siswa kelas VII B MTs Jamilurrahman Yogyakarta yang cenderung pasif dalam memproses materi kebahasaan karena penggunaan metode konvensional yang monoton. Masalah utama dalam penelitian ini adalah sejauh mana efektivitas penerapan metode Talking Stick dalam meningkatkan maharah istima’ siswa tersebut, dengan tujuan untuk menguji dampak nyata penggunaan metode pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Talking Stick terhadap peningkatan capaian belajar menyimak siswa. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif eksperimen dengan desain pre-experimental berbentuk one-group pretest-posttest. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII B MTs Jamilurrahman Yogyakarta yang berjumlah 24 responden. Data kemampuan menyimak dikumpulkan melalui tes objektif tertulis dengan bantuan loudspeaker menggunakan stimulus materi audio hiwar bertema At-Tha‘ām wa Asy-Syarāb.
Hasil analisis data statistik parametrik menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode Talking Stick efektif secara signifikan dalam mendongkrak kemampuan menyimak siswa, yang dibuktikan dengan perolehan nilai Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000 < 0,05. Peningkatan kualitas pencapaian tersebut didukung oleh nilai rata-rata N-Gain Score sebesar 0,6526 yang masuk dalam klasifikasi kategori "Sedang" atau setara dengan tingkat efektivitas sebesar 65,26%. Terjadi pula pergeseran sebaran nilai yang drastis di mana persentase capaian siswa pada kategori nilai tinggi melonjak dari 16,7% saat pretest menjadi 75% saat posttest, serta tidak ada lagi siswa yang tertahan di kategori nilai rendah. Dengan demikian, disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan metode kooperatif tipe Talking Stick berhasil meningkatkan fokus konsentrasi, ketelitian, kesiapan mental, dan kemampuan siswa dalam mencerna serta merespons pesan lisan bahasa Arab secara efektif di lapangan.

The Effectiveness of the Talking Stick Method in Improving the Maharah kalam (Speaking Skills) of Grade VII B Students at MTs Jamilurrahman Yogyakarta 2025/2026

This research is motivated by the low listening skills (maharah istima’) of class VII B students at MTs Jamilurrahman Yogyakarta, who tend to be passive in processing language materials due to the use of conventional and monotonous methods. The primary problem in this study is the extent of the effectiveness of the Talking Stick method in improving students' maharah istima’, aiming to examine the real impact of using the cooperative learning model, specifically the Talking Stick type, on improving student listening learning outcomes. The research design employed is a quantitative experimental method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample for this study consisted of all 24 male students in class VII B at MTs Jamilurrahman Yogyakarta. Data regarding listening proficiency were collected through written objective tests assisted by loudspeakers utilizing audio hiwar materials under the theme At-Tha‘ām wa Asy-Syarāb.
The results of the parametric statistical analysis indicate that the application of the Talking Stick method is significantly effective in enhancing students' listening proficiency, as evidenced by a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05. This improvement is further supported by an average N-Gain Score of 0.6526, which is categorized under the "Moderate" level, equivalent to an effectiveness rate of 65.26%. There was also a drastic shift in the distribution of scores, where the percentage of students in the high score category jumped from 16.7% during the pretest to 75% in the posttest, with no students remaining in the low score category. Thus, it is concluded that the Talking Stick cooperative method successfully enhances students' concentration, cognitive focus, mental alertness, and baseline accuracy in comprehending and responding to Arabic oral messages effectively in the classroom.
