Abstract
“Muhammad Arrafi Muzhaffar Permadi (221.371.112). The Dynamics of Students’ Learning Difficulties in Islamic Boarding Schools in the Digital Era: Between Tradition and Technological Limitations. Publication of scientific articles. Yogyakarta: Islamic Education Study Program. Madani Tarbiyah College Yogyakarta, 2026.”
Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) maintain distinctive traditional learning systems that emphasize moral and religious values. However, rapid technological development poses challenges for pesantren that restrict digital technology use in learning activities. This condition, as found at Madrasah Aliyah Islamic Center Bin Baz (MA ICBB), contributes to various learning difficulties among students. This study aims to identify students’ learning difficulties, analyze the impact of limited digital technology on students’ understanding and learning motivation, examine students’ perceptions of traditional learning methods in the digital era, and describe their adaptive strategies. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were collected through individual and group interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using a descriptive-interpretative method. The findings indicate that students’ learning difficulties are influenced by limited access to digital technology, lack of instructional variation, and insufficient learning facilities, which affect students’ comprehension and motivation. Nevertheless, students demonstrate adaptive efforts through collaborative learning and limited use of available resources. This study is limited to a single pesantren, suggesting the need for broader future research.
Keywords: students’ learning difficulties; Islamic boarding school; digital technology; traditional learning.
